A new Target store is being developed in the Phoenix area, showcasing the company's growth strategy.
Target Corporation is set to open 48 new stores across the U.S., with two locations in the Phoenix area. The new stores will be located in Buckeye and east Mesa, further enhancing Target’s presence in Arizona amidst a growing population. This expansion reflects Target’s strategy to adapt to retail demands and serve communities effectively.
Phoenix, Arizona – Target Corporation has announced plans to expand its reach in the United States by opening 48 new stores, with two locations set to debut in the Phoenix area. These expansions signal a continued growth strategy by the retail giant, which will further enhance its presence in one of the fastest-growing regions in the state.
The new Target locations in Phoenix are scheduled to be established in Buckeye and east Mesa. The Buckeye store will be situated near Interstate 10 and Verrado Way, while the Mesa store will occupy the northeast corner of US 60 and Signal Butte Road. Each of these locations is expected to span approximately 148,000 square feet. In addition to these locations, work is currently underway on another Target store in Queen Creek, located near Gantzel and Combs roads.
The recent addition of a Target store in Surprise, which opened near Loop 303 and Waddell Road, brings the total number of Target locations in Arizona to at least 20. With the new stores planned in Buckeye and Mesa, the total may soon increase further. While the specific opening dates for these new locations have yet to be revealed, the expansion is part of Target’s broader strategy, encompassing plans to open stores in 22 states, including high-demand markets such as Florida, Texas, North Carolina, and California.
Despite the challenges facing the retail environment this year, marked by a wave of closures among various franchise stores and restaurants, Target continues to thrive. The company estimates that there is a Target store within a 10-mile radius of most households in the United States. This robust outreach strategy reflects Target’s commitment to community accessibility successfully, indicated by their substantial growth even amid nationwide economic fluctuations.
Maricopa County, where Phoenix is located, stands as the fourth-largest county in the United States by population, currently housing approximately 4.5 million residents. This figure accounts for around 63% of Arizona’s entire population. Furthermore, the Phoenix metropolitan area, often referred to as “The Valley,” is the largest metropolitan region in the Southwest with a population of about 4.8 million, according to the 2020 Census.
Target’s first store opened its doors in Minnesota back in 1962, and since that time, the company has grown to operate more than 1,900 stores across the country. The recent announcement of expansion efforts demonstrates Target’s ongoing commitment to serving customers and adapting to the retail landscape. As they prepare to open new stores in Phoenix, the company is looking to enhance the shopping experience for residents in these rapidly growing areas.
As the exact opening dates for the new stores in Buckeye and east Mesa remain uncertain, residents can anticipate the arrival of Target’s shopping options, aimed at meeting the needs of a growing population in the region.
