The Falcon 9 rocket ascends into the sky, carrying Starlink satellites for deployment.
SpaceX is preparing for its sixth and possibly final launch of June with a Falcon 9 rocket carrying 26 Starlink satellites. Set for June 28 from Vandenberg Space Force Base, the launch will be livestreamed and offers viewership opportunities across parts of Arizona. This mission is part of SpaceX’s ongoing efforts to expand global internet access through its Starlink network. The Falcon 9, known for its reliability and innovative design, is on track to make its eighth flight of the booster used for this mission.
California – SpaceX is set to conduct its sixth and likely final launch of June with a Falcon 9 rocket, scheduled to lift off from Vandenberg Space Force Base located in Southern California. The launch, carrying a batch of 26 Starlink satellites for deployment into low-Earth orbit, is expected to take place on Saturday, June 28, with a launch window open from 9:47 to 10:46 a.m. PT. If weather conditions prevent the launch, backup opportunities are available on Sunday, June 29, according to a Federal Aviation Administration operations plan advisory.
The Falcon 9 rocket will take off from Launch Complex 4E at Vandenberg Space Force Base, situated in Santa Barbara County, California. Notably, most launches from this base typically follow a south or southeast trajectory. SpaceX plans to livestream the launch on their official website about five minutes before liftoff, while updates will also be shared through social media channels.
Residents in parts of Arizona could have an opportunity to witness the rocket as it ascends, particularly if the launch occurs in the early morning or at night when visibility is optimal.
Earlier this month, SpaceX successfully completed its Transporter 14 mission from Vandenberg, which deployed a total of 70 payloads, including 166 capsules containing human remains intended for a cosmic memorial service. Highlighting the innovative approach to space missions, SpaceX’s operations have been integral in expanding the boundaries of satellite launches and deployments.
Founded by Elon Musk in 2002, SpaceX has rapidly advanced in the aerospace industry, primarily known for its pioneering work in creating a fully reusable rocket. The company is headquartered at Starbase in South Texas and has significantly contributed to the field of Internet connectivity through its Starlink satellite constellation. As of now, SpaceX has successfully deployed nearly 8,000 satellites, which are instrumental in providing high-speed internet services to populations around the globe.
Starlink operates its network from low-Earth orbit, at an altitude of approximately 341 miles. This position allows for lower latency compared to traditional satellite internet services, making it an appealing option for users seeking reliable internet access, especially in rural and underserved areas.
The Falcon 9 rocket, known for its two-stage design and standing at 230 feet tall, has become one of the most frequently launched rockets in history. For this mission, the rocket’s first-stage booster, tail number B1088, is slated for its eighth flight. Following liftoff, the booster is expected to perform a self-landing on the droneship “Of Course I Still Love You,” which will be stationed in the Pacific Ocean.
This launch is significant for SpaceX, marking their 81st mission of the year, which includes operations from both California and Florida. At Vandenberg Space Force Base, the year has seen over 30 total launches so far, showcasing the busy schedule that the space launch site has managed to achieve.
Overall, the upcoming Falcon 9 launch represents a continuation of SpaceX’s regular cadence of deliveries of Starlink internet satellites into orbit, contributing to the company’s ongoing mission of expanding global internet access and enhancing satellite technology.
