News Summary

Arizona’s small businesses are benefiting from a significant increase in Small Business Administration (SBA) lending, marking the highest level of activity in over 15 years. With a capital impact of $56 billion in fiscal 2024 and nearly 6,000 loans from the 504 program, local entrepreneurs are gaining the financial support they need to grow. The 7(a) loan program also saw impressive growth, with over 70,000 new loans issued this year. Initiatives such as the Working Capital Pilot Program and enhanced accessibility for smaller loans are empowering Arizona’s business community.

Exciting Times for Arizona’s Small Businesses as SBA Lending Hits New Heights

In Arizona, small businesses are riding a wave of success, thanks to a notable surge in Small Business Administration (SBA) lending. It appears that the SBA has been busier than ever, reaching out to help more businesses than it has in over 15 years! This is fantastic news for local entrepreneurs looking for that extra push to elevate their dreams to new heights.

Historic Growth in SBA Lending

The SBA revealed that its lending programs have been incredibly effective over the past year, with a staggering capital impact of 56 billion dollars in fiscal 2024, which wrapped up on September 30. The agency facilitated nearly 6,000 loans through its 504 loan program, marking a slight increase from the previous year. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

The 7(a) loan program experienced substantial growth as well, with over 70,000 new loans issued this year—up from just over 57,000 in 2023. It’s evident that small businesses are seizing opportunities and finding the funding they need to grow.

Small Loans Making a Big Impact

Interestingly, there’s a spotlight on smaller loans, too. In 2024, the number of SBA loans issued for amounts under 150,000 dollars skyrocketed to over 38,000, which is the highest number seen since fiscal 2016. This is great news for smaller businesses who often find these amounts more manageable as they seek to establish or expand their operations.

Arizona’s Strong Performance

When zooming in on Arizona, the SBA and its partners have made significant strides. They issued 199 loans under the 504 program totaling 208.1 million dollars in fiscal 2024, an uptick from 159 loans worth 180.4 million the year before. Moreover, the number of guaranteed 7(a) loans rose impressively to 1,334, combining for a hefty 704.8 million dollars – a considerable leap from the previous year’s figures.

Enhancements to SBA Lending Programs

What’s fueling all this growth? The SBA attributes the increased lending to several new reforms and updates. One interesting initiative launched is the Working Capital Pilot Program, which rolled out in June, giving small business owners greater flexibility. Furthermore, there’s a revised fee structure that includes transaction-based and asset-based loans, allowing businesses to access funds against their assets.

This is a game changer when it comes to funding business dreams. Notably, the maximum loan size for the Community Advantage program has recently been boosted from 350,000 dollars to 500,000 dollars, with even larger sums available for climate projects.

The SBA has also simplified refinancing for small business owners with a new rule coming into effect on November 15, allowing easier access to the 504 loan program.

Arizona’s Growing Population Fuels Business Opportunities

Interestingly, Arizona’s ongoing population growth is adding to the vibrant lending activity. More people means more new businesses sprouting up, and naturally, more potential borrowers looking for that crucial financial assistance.

Prominent Players in the Lending Landscape

Leading the charge in Arizona is TMC Financing, the top provider of SBA loans in the region. In the fiscal year 2024, TMC approved a remarkable 131 loans totaling over 146 million dollars. Nationwide, TMC facilitated a whopping 490 SBA 504 loans which amounted to 1.8 billion dollars in project financing.

Local Success Stories

Several notable Arizona businesses have benefited from these SBA loans, including Someburros, which has expanded to 16 locations and plans to add four more by 2025. Other involved businesses include Adobe Alarm, Advanced Autism Center, and Caduceus Cellars, demonstrating how the SBA funding is fostering growth across diverse sectors.

More Support for Business Owners

Despite some bumps along the road in securing SBA loans, local business owners report that the thorough process is vital for sustainable growth. Plus, the SBA hosts free monthly clinics aimed at educating Arizona business owners about credit requirements and available lending options. This way, entrepreneurs are empowered to make informed decisions about their financial futures.

Exciting Future Ahead

Overall, the sky is the limit for Arizona’s small businesses backed by the SBA’s robust lending programs. With more resources and support than ever before, local entrepreneurs are on the path to spectacular success!
