News Summary

Metro Phoenix is expecting major traffic disruptions from April 4 to April 7 due to the Broadway Curve Improvement Project. Key freeways including I-10, US 60, and SR 143 will face various closures and lane reductions, significantly affecting weekend travel plans. Drivers are advised to take alternate routes and allow extra travel time to avoid congestion during this busy weekend.

Metro Phoenix Traffic Alert: Major Weekend Disruptions Ahead!

Hey, wonderful people of Phoenix! Got weekend plans? If you’re thinking about hitting the roads from April 4 to April 7, you might want to switch gears and plan accordingly. The Broadway Curve Improvement Project is gearing up to shake things up on three major freeways in our lovely metro area.

What to Expect

Starting Friday night, major sections of Interstate 10, US 60 (Superstition Freeway), and State Route 143 (Hohokam Expressway) will be seeing some serious traffic disruptions. If you’re planning to head into Phoenix or out of town, keep reading to stay one step ahead of the traffic madness!

Interstate 10 Closures

Mark your calendars for a big close on westbound I-10! From 10 p.m. Friday, April 4, until 10 p.m. Saturday, April 5, this thoroughfare will be completely shut down from SR 143 to the I-17 “Split” interchange near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. That sounds like a recipe for bottlenecks, right?

But that’s not all! After the closure wraps up, expect only two lanes to be available on westbound I-10 from SR 143 all the way to 24th Street until 4 a.m. Monday, April 7. And if you’re taking the freeway from Guadalupe Road in Tempe to SR 143, get ready for just two open lanes from 10 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday.

Northbound SR 143 Closure

For those of you considering northbound routes, take note: between I-10 and Loop 202, northbound SR 143 will be closed from 10 p.m. Saturday, April 5, until 4 a.m. Monday, April 7. This is crunch time for getting your game plan sorted!

Alternate Routes You Should Consider

Don’t let this put a damper on your weekend! If you have somewhere to go, make sure you keep your options open with alternate routes. A good strategy is to take eastbound US 60 in Tempe, follow it to the northbound Loop 101 Price Freeway, then slide over to the westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway to reconnect with westbound I-10 toward Phoenix. Sounds easy-peasy, right?

More Traffic Adjustments on US 60 and Loop 101

Oh, and it doesn’t stop there! Westbound US 60 will also see a lane reduction to just one lane from Rural Road to I-10 from Friday to 4 a.m. Monday, all part of the Broadway Curve fuss. Plus, if you’re on the eastbound Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway, get ready for some off-ramp closures at 51st and 35th Avenues from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for widening work. Yield to patience, folks!

Plan Ahead!

All this means traffic is likely going to be a bit of a mess. Please consider giving yourself some extra travel time this weekend. Whether it’s a fun outing, a family visit, or just a day out, planning your route and leaving early could be the difference between a leisurely ride and a traffic headache. Stay safe out there!
