Phoenix – Multiple fatal crashes occurred overnight across the city, resulting in several deaths and numerous injuries. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding these tragic incidents as the community grapples with the severe consequences of road accidents.

In west Phoenix, a man lost his life after a single-vehicle crash on Thomas Road near Interstate 17. The incident took place around 1 a.m. on Monday, when Phoenix Police arrived to find the driver unconscious and in critical condition. Despite the immediate attention from first responders, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been publicly disclosed, and police have closed Thomas Road in both directions from 27th Avenue to I-17, which reopened at approximately 6:20 a.m. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

Earlier, on Saturday night, a tragic accident in central Phoenix claimed the life of 92-year-old Carolyn Pain. The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when she failed to yield while turning left at the intersection of 7th and Northern avenues and was subsequently struck by a tow truck. Emergency crews transported Pain to the hospital in critical condition, but she later succumbed to her injuries. The tow truck driver, along with two passengers—a teenage girl and an infant—were unharmed. Phoenix police stated that there was no indication of impairment contributing to the accident.

In a separate incident, a 4-year-old boy named Miguel Dominguez was fatally struck by a vehicle in north Phoenix. The event transpired on Monday night near 36th Street and McDowell Road. Authorities discovered the child unresponsive at the scene and he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. His mother was also involved in the incident but did not sustain injuries. Preliminary reports suggest that Miguel was walking just ahead of his mother in the crosswalk when the vehicle struck them. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene, and impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this case.

A second crash on the same morning, occurring around 5:56 a.m. near 57th Avenue and Indian School Road, resulted in two fatalities. Police found 44-year-old Phyliss Wauneka unresponsive; she was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in her vehicle, identified as 37-year-old Antonio Wauneka, was severely injured and later died at the hospital. The other vehicle’s driver remained at the scene, and initial reports indicated that speed may have played a role in the collision, with no signs of impairment found during the investigation.

This wave of accidents follows a prior incident on July 12 in downtown Phoenix, when 25-year-old Roberto Olivas died after colliding with a vehicle driven by a teenager. Police responded to the scene around 4:30 a.m. and found Olivas with critical injuries; he was transported to the hospital but ultimately died. Investigators established that Olivas was driving at a high rate of speed before the collision occurred. The teenage driver and several passengers fled the scene but were contacted by law enforcement later, and no impairment was suspected in this incident either. The investigation into this crash is also ongoing.

As the community reflects on these devastating events, authorities urge residents to remain vigilant while on the road. Each incident underscores the importance of road safety and adherence to traffic laws to prevent further tragedy.
