In Phoenix, MOM’s House, a transitional home for women reentering society after incarceration, has received a significant boost through a $100,000 renovation grant from Lowe’s. This funding is part of the 2025 Lowe’s Hometowns project, aimed at revitalizing community spaces including support facilities like MOM’s House.
Renovations have officially commenced at the facility, located at 1125 W. Fillmore St. This home is operated by St. Joseph the Worker, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals overcome employment barriers and achieve self-sufficiency. The improvements will not only enhance the building’s physical attributes but also create a more welcoming and empowering environment for its residents.
Individuals in the program experience a supportive atmosphere where they can secure employment and rebuild their lives with dignity. MOM’s House is an integral part of the Workforce Villages Reentry (WVR) Program, specifically designed for women transitioning from Perryville Prison into the workforce and independent living. Participants typically receive structured support for 30 to 45 days, aimed at helping them secure full-time employment with wages of at least $18 an hour before moving into affordable housing.
The effectiveness of the WVR Program is notable, with an 81% success rate. Out of the first 21 participants, 17 successfully moved into their own residences. Currently, nine women are enrolled in the program, benefitting from the resources and assistance provided by MOM’s House.
In addition to financial support, local Lowe’s associates will volunteer their time to assist with the renovations at MOM’s House. This hands-on involvement will help enhance the facility, ensuring it provides a safe and nurturing space for its residents as they embark on their journeys toward independence.
The Lowe’s Hometowns initiative is a five-year project that allocates a substantial budget of $100 million for the revitalization of community spaces across the country. By focusing on transitional housing such as MOM’s House, Lowe’s aims to make a lasting impact on the lives of individuals reentering society.
St. Joseph the Worker operates MOM’s House with a focus on breaking down barriers that prevent individuals from accessing stable employment. The nonprofit’s mission is to empower these women, offering them resources and support necessary for a successful transition. By providing shelter and stability, MOM’s House facilitates a pathway for women to improve their circumstances and attain self-sufficiency.
For those interested in learning more about St. Joseph the Worker and its reentry programs, additional information can be found on their website. Insights into the Lowe’s Hometowns project and its extended impact on community-focused initiatives are also available through their online resources.
Through this renovation grant and the collaborative effort of community members, MOM’s House will continue to play an essential role in supporting women as they navigate the challenges of reintegration into society.
