Phoenix will celebrate a significant milestone in its running community on November 9, 2025, as the Phoenix 10K introduces its first-ever full marathon. This historic event marks the 50th anniversary of the race, which has evolved from a small local gathering into a major celebration of health and fitness.

The Phoenix 10K, first established in 1976 by Dr. Art Mollen, is not only commemorating its rich history but is also expanding its offerings to include the full marathon distance of 26.2 miles. Participants can still choose to compete in signature events such as the 5K, 10K, and half-marathon, ensuring that there is something for everyone.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego will serve as the official race starter and will also present the Mayor’s Cup to the marathon winner. It is anticipated that Mayor Gallego may join the race herself, adding a sense of community pride to the event.

Race Route and Activities

The marathon will commence and conclude at Biltmore Fashion Park, with the race route showcasing stunning views of local landmarks, including Piestewa Peak, Mummy Mountain, and Camelback Mountain. The course will be equipped with nine hydration aid stations and staffed medical tents for the comfort and safety of the participants.

To enhance the experience, attendees can enjoy a live stream of the race on YouTube, accompanied by a large video wall at the event for real-time updates. Additionally, a VIP Lounge will be available, accommodating 300 registered guests from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring breakfast, mimosas, and special perks like custom medal engraving provided by Lululemon.

Runners can also look forward to a Recovery Zone with cold plunges and a live DJ, as well as a Runners Village that will offer pre- and post-race stretching and yoga sessions. Each registered runner will receive a race bag filled with coupons from participating vendors, further enhancing the event’s community atmosphere.

Special Honorees and Medical Coordination

A highlight of the marathon will include Dr. Dawn Mussallem, a heart transplant recipient and cancer survivor, who will complete the marathon alongside her heart transplant surgeon. This participation serves as a testament to resilience and the advancements in medical science.

The medical coordination of the event will be handled by Dr. David Carfagno, with support from medical students at AT Still University, ensuring that participants have access to care should any needs arise during the race.

Recognition and Donation

The anniversary event will also honor Tex Earnhardt by inducting him into the Arizona Runner’s Hall of Fame, celebrating the history and legacy of the Phoenix 10K. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Mollen Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to combating childhood obesity and promoting healthy lifestyles.

Sponsorship and Registration

This year’s Phoenix 10K is presented by JPMorgan Chase, alongside additional sponsors such as Earnhardt Auto Centers, AT Still University, Robeks Fresh Juices & Smoothies, and SRP. Registration for the race is available online, allowing participants to secure their spot in what promises to be a memorable milestone in local sports history.

As Arizona’s largest city gears up for the Phoenix 10K, it will concurrently feature another significant running event with the inaugural Phoenix Marathon scheduled for December 13, 2025. The introduction of the full marathon to the Phoenix 10K is viewed by Dr. Art Mollen as the realization of a “utopian dream,” marking a new chapter in the city’s vibrant running culture.
