The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will close the westbound Loop 101 at 35th Avenue starting May 15, 2025, for 60 days as part of a $140 million roadwork project. The planned upgrades include widening the freeway and enhancing visibility with new lighting. Complete project completion is expected in spring 2027.
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will close the westbound Loop 101 at 35th Avenue starting Monday night, May 15, 2025, as part of a significant roadwork project. The closure is expected to last for 60 days, anticipated to lift in mid-July 2025. During this timeframe, the westbound 35th Avenue on-ramp will be closed to traffic from 11:30 PM.
Motorists are advised to utilize alternative routes, specifically the 27th or 51st Avenues, to access the freeway while the closure is in effect. ADOT is implementing this closure as part of a larger initiative to enhance and widen Loop 101.
This roadwork forms part of a $140 million project aimed at improving traffic flow and safety. The project, initiated in September 2024, will widen Loop 101 between I-17 and 75th Avenue. It involves the addition of one lane in each direction along the freeway. Furthermore, several bridges will be widened, existing pavements will be resurfaced, and new freeway lighting will be installed to enhance visibility for nighttime drivers.
The upgrades are designed to address current traffic congestion issues and accommodate future growth in the Phoenix area. As population and vehicle numbers continue to increase, the expansion of major roadways like Loop 101 is crucial to maintaining efficient transportation systems.
