A tragic accident in south Phoenix claimed the life of a 21-year-old pedestrian, Angel Gamboa-Serrano, after he was struck by a vehicle. The incident occurred while he was crossing outside of a marked crosswalk, prompting ongoing investigations and renewed discussions about pedestrian safety in the area. Another pedestrian incident the following day adds to worries about traffic safety. Authorities stress the importance of awareness and adherence to traffic laws to protect pedestrians.
Phoenix – A 21-year-old male pedestrian named Angel Gamboa-Serrano died on July 4, 2025, after being struck by a vehicle in south Phoenix. The incident occurred at approximately 5 a.m. near the intersection of 16th Street and Broadway Road.
According to initial reports, police responded to the scene following the collision and discovered Gamboa-Serrano suffering from critical injuries. Emergency responders from Phoenix Fire Department subsequently transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead due to his injuries.
Investigation details indicate that Gamboa-Serrano was crossing 16th Street outside of a marked crosswalk at the time of the accident. The driver involved in the incident, an adult woman, reported sustaining minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment. No further details about the driver’s identity or the vehicle involved have been released.
This tragic accident is not an isolated event, as another pedestrian incident occurred just a day earlier on July 3, 2025. In a separate case, two men were hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in west Phoenix. This incident took place near 83rd Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road around 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday night.
First responders arrived at the scene to find both men lying on the roadway, suffering from life-threatening injuries. They were quickly transported to local hospitals for urgent medical care. Lower Buckeye Road was closed for several hours overnight for investigation purposes, but it has since been reopened for traffic.
As of now, Phoenix Police are continuing their investigation into the incident involving the two men. Authorities report that no suspects have been identified in connection with that case at this time.
The spate of accidents highlights ongoing concerns regarding pedestrian safety in Phoenix, particularly in areas where crosswalks are limited or traffic patterns change frequently. Local officials and community leaders have emphasized the need for enhanced safety measures to protect pedestrians, especially as urban areas continue to grow and evolve.
City planners and law enforcement agencies are expected to address these issues in upcoming meetings to discuss potential measures, such as improved signage, better lighting, and increased awareness campaigns to inform motorists about pedestrian rights and safety.
This recent rise in pedestrian accidents has prompted calls for increased community vigilance and adherence to traffic laws among drivers. The city emphasizes that safety is a shared responsibility that requires the commitment of all road users.
