Surveillance footage revealed Tamura exiting a double-parked BMW with an M4 rifle before entering the building and opening fire indiscriminately. After ascending to the 33rd floor, Tamura shot another victim fatally before turning the gun on himself. When law enforcement investigated his vehicle, they discovered a rifle case, a revolver, various magazines, ammunition, and prescribed medication. Initial inquiries showed that Tamura had traveled across the country and had last been seen in Columbia, New Jersey, shortly before reaching New York City.
Panic ensued in the building as employees barricaded themselves in conference rooms to protect themselves from the gunfire. Witnesses described a scene filled with fear and uncertainty during the chaotic moments of the shooting.
New York City officials confirmed that Tamura acted alone and assured the public that there was no ongoing threat. The NYPD classified the incident as a “violent, despicable” act of gun violence. Mayor Eric Adams expressed condolences to the families affected by this tragic event.
