Arizona authorities have arrested 32-year-old Makale Winfield, a mover, for allegedly stealing jewelry valued at $29,000 from a Paradise Valley home on September 15. The incident came to light when the homeowner reported the theft following a moving company’s work at the residence.

Winfield is accused of taking three rings, one of which featured the victim’s initials inscribed on it. The stolen rings matched detailed descriptions provided by the homeowner, and police were able to confirm their authenticity through photographs. The investigation revealed that Winfield sold the rings at a pawn shop located approximately 15 miles southwest of Paradise Valley the same day, around 6:16 p.m.

Evidence collected during the investigation included cell phone data that placed Winfield at both the victim’s home and the pawn shop around the time of the theft. Surveillance footage from the pawn shop captured Winfield during the transaction, further incriminating him. During his subsequent interview with law enforcement, Winfield reportedly confessed to taking at least one ring and selling it while employed as a mover.

As a result of the theft, Winfield now faces serious charges, including felony theft, since the value of the stolen property exceeds $25,000, along with trafficking in stolen property. He is currently being held at a Maricopa County jail awaiting further legal proceedings.

In light of this incident, the Paradise Valley Police Department has issued a warning to residents to secure their valuables during home services and to remain vigilant about reporting any suspicious activities. The specific moving company for which Winfield was working has not been disclosed by authorities.

This theft underscores the potential risks associated with hiring moving services, particularly in high-value home settings. Homeowners are encouraged to take preventive measures when allowing service personnel access to their residences.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding valuables and maintaining awareness of one’s surroundings, especially during significant household transitions like moving.
