Developed by acclaimed designers, the course will offer a more demanding experience with breathtaking views and innovative play. Brewster, Washington – Gamble Sands Golf Resort is set to unveil its new Scarecrow Course on August 1, 2025, further enhancing its reputation as a premier golf destination. Located in the high desert of central Washington and overlooking the scenic Columbia River, the resort is home to two 18-hole golf courses designed by acclaimed architect David McLay Kidd.
The Scarecrow Course, developed in partnership with Nick Schaan of DMK Golf Design, is designed to offer a contrasting yet complementary experience to the existing original Gamble Sands course that opened in 2014. The original course has been celebrated in the golfing community, having achieved rankings of No. 2 in Washington and No. 24 among all public-access courses across the United States.
The new Scarecrow Course is built on more rugged terrain and features richer green contours, presenting a more demanding experience for players. The opening hole, a short par-4, challenges golfers to strategize with risk-and-reward tactics, while the course itself boasts diverse angles and slopes that encourage creativity and innovative play. The Scarecrow Course has a par of 71 and extends to 6,900 yards, featuring fast and firm surfaces created through traditional fine fescue turf.
Players will also enjoy breathtaking views throughout the course, highlighted by the picturesque vineyard backdrop on the 9th hole of Scarecrow. In addition to the new golf course, the resort has expanded its accommodations with the addition of 40 double-king golf-view rooms, increasing its total to 77 luxury accommodations.
Gamble Sands has also made room for new dining experiences, unveiling additional food and beverage options at the clubhouse and The Barn restaurant. Additionally, a golf shop and a practice facility have been established to enhance the amenities offered to guests.
The resort is conveniently located for visitors, accessible via a drive from Seattle that takes a little over three hours, approximately 90 minutes from Wenatchee, or 2.5 hours from Spokane. Golf enthusiasts can also enjoy the QuickSands short course and the Cascades putting course, providing even more golfing opportunities.
Gamble Sands was born from revitalizing previously cultivated apple orchards and cornfields, now emerging as a top golfing destination maintained by the Gebbers family. As it joins the ranks of elite golf resorts, it invites golfers to engage in discussions about which course stands out among others, similar to sites like Bandon Dunes, Streamsong, and Pebble Beach. The layered experiences provided by both courses will inspire golfers to consider their preferences and evaluate each layout, adding to the resort’s overall allure.
With the anticipated opening of the Scarecrow Course, Gamble Sands Golf Resort is poised to captivate both novice players and experts alike, while solidifying its status as a leading destination for golf aficionados around the country.
