News Summary

Timothy James Wood, 36, faces serious charges including aggravated assault and kidnapping after a woman reported being held captive for two weeks. The victim displayed severe injuries upon escaping on July 2, 2025, including bruising and a fractured rib. Wood’s history of domestic violence adds weight to the serious allegations against him, as law enforcement recovered evidence corroborating the victim’s account. This case highlights the urgent need to address domestic violence and provide support for victims in distress.

Phoenix, Arizona – Timothy James Wood, a 36-year-old man, has been charged with multiple serious offenses including aggravated assault, sexual assault, kidnapping, and misdemeanor threats and assault after a woman reported being held captive in a shed for approximately two weeks. The allegations detail a terrifying ordeal that culminated in the woman escaping to seek help from a neighbor on July 2, 2025.

The victim alleges that during her confinement, she was tied with a tow strap around her ankle, and the shed doors were chained shut. Bricks were placed outside, preventing her from escaping. Upon her escape, authorities noted that the woman displayed severe injuries including swelling, bruising, a fractured rib, and visible bite marks, suggesting a prolonged and brutal assault.

Reports indicate that Wood subjected the victim to extreme violence. He allegedly beat her with an electrical cord and used a wood saw to inflict wounds on her foot. Furthermore, he is accused of making chilling threats to kill her, at one point allegedly burying her under the shed for two days to heighten her fear and control.

The woman and Wood were reportedly in a relationship that began after her eviction from her previous home, although they had known each other prior to starting their romantic involvement. Wood’s history raises additional concerns, as he has a criminal past that includes a prison sentence in 2010 for attempted aggravated domestic violence and other charges dating back to 2007.

In a previous incident from September 2007, Wood faced accusations of attempting to kidnap a woman identified as his girlfriend, along with threats to kill her. He also violated probation in 2010 by approaching a pregnant woman, leading to further charges for aggravated domestic violence. As a result of his ongoing legal troubles and the serious nature of the current charges, Wood is now detained at the Maricopa County Jail with a bond set at $150,000 cash-only.

Despite Wood’s claims that the allegations are false and his assertion that the victim suffers from mental health issues, law enforcement found physical evidence corroborating the victim’s account. Items such as chains and tow straps were recovered, substantiating her claims of captivity and abuse.

The recent events surrounding this case underline the pervasive issue of domestic violence and the critical need for awareness and resources for those affected. Individuals experiencing domestic violence or those needing support are encouraged to contact resources such as the National Domestic Violence Hotline or reach out to local services in Phoenix.

The charges against Wood reflect the serious nature of the allegations and underscore the importance of legal protections for victims of domestic abuse. As this case proceeds, it highlights the need for continuous efforts to address and combat domestic violence in communities.
