The newly designed Arizona State football uniforms for the upcoming season highlight team identity and tradition.
Arizona State University (ASU) has released its new ‘Strategy’ template standard uniforms for the upcoming football season. The redesigned maroon and white jerseys feature prominent team branding and a modern aesthetic, including gold accents and angular fabric details inspired by the Arizona state flag. This change marks the reintroduction of the team name on the jersey, enhancing team identity. ASU aims to engage both new fans and long-time supporters with this uniform update, aligning with the excitement for the upcoming season.
Tempe, Arizona – Arizona State University (ASU) has announced the release of its new “Strategy” template standard uniforms for the upcoming 2025 football season. These uniforms will succeed the previous design, which was introduced for the 2023 and 2024 seasons but received mixed reactions from fans and experts alike due to a perceived lack of team identity.
The newly-designed maroon home jersey comes with several noteworthy features aimed at enhancing visibility and team pride. For instance, “Arizona State” is prominently displayed in gold using the Sun Devil Bold font across the chest. The gold player numbers are outlined in white, and they appear in an enlarged vertical format on the front, back, and sleeves. Angular maroon fabric accents on the sleeves draw inspiration from the rays of the Arizona state flag, providing a modern touch while paying homage to local tradition. Additionally, the jersey sports a gold adidas logo on the left shoulder and a maroon and gold Big 12 logo on the right shoulder. Inside the collar, a gold O2V reference is included as a nod to the ASU fight song, while a black PT*42 shield at the base of the collar honors ASU football legend Pat Tillman.
The away white jersey features similar elements, with “Arizona State” displayed in striking maroon. Maroon player numbers outlined in gold are also included, along with angular white fabric accents on the sleeves. Similar to the maroon version, a maroon O2V and a black PT*42 shield are found inside the collar.
The updated pants have shifted to a more simplified design, eliminating the large pitchfork emblem that previously occupied the thigh. All three color variants of the pants—gold, white, and maroon—maintain this streamlined look while differing in color and logo features. The gold pants sport a maroon adidas logo alongside a gold pitchfork with maroon trim. The white pants feature a maroon pitchfork with gold trim and a maroon adidas logo, while the maroon pants have a gold logo and a maroon pitchfork with gold trim.
A significant update to the uniforms is the reintroduction of the team name on the jersey front, which had been absent since the 2018 season. This change is expected to strengthen the team’s identity and bolster fan connection. The updated color contrast in the designs effectively highlights ASU’s traditional maroon and gold color scheme, creating a visually appealing representation of the team.
The unveiling aligns with ASU’s preparation for the 2025 season, which follows a successful 2024 campaign that included a winning record and a playoff appearance. The first opportunity for fans to see the new uniforms in action will be on August 30, 2025, during a home game against Northern Arizona.
This uniform redesign is part of ASU’s broader strategy to blend tradition with a contemporary flair, aiming to engage both new fans and long-time supporters. Athletic Director Graham Rossini has emphasized that these updates encapsulate the spirit of innovation while respecting the established heritage of the program.
As ASU steps into this new era with its football uniforms, it marks not just a visual transformation but also a deeper commitment to enhancing team identity and connection to the Arizona community. The upcoming season will be a significant moment for the Sun Devils as they don these new uniforms and aim to build upon their recent successes.
