Arizona Athletics announced on June 9, 2025, that Andrew Dubs has been appointed as the new Head Coach of the Track & Field and Cross Country teams. Dubs takes over the position from long-time coach Fred Harvey, who will continue with the program in an emeritus role.

Dubs joins Arizona after an impressive 14-year career in Division I coaching, which includes a significant stint as the Head Coach of the USA National Track & Field Team for five years. During his tenure, Dubs was instrumental in leading the USA program in various international competitions, including the World University Games.

Coaching Experience and Achievements

Prior to his role with the USA National Team, Dubs served as the Associate Head Coach at Virginia Tech for seven years. His coaching expertise expands to assistant positions at notable institutions such as Iowa from 2014 to 2017, Harvard from 2012 to 2014, North Carolina from 2011 to 2012, and Auburn from 2010 to 2011. Throughout these roles, Dubs demonstrated remarkable success, guiding his teams to secure a total of 10 indoor and outdoor Atlantic Coast Conference team titles along with three Ivy League championships.

In sum, Dubs has developed a track record of nurturing talent, producing 79 NCAA Qualifiers, 32 individual All-Americans, and 18 conference champions. Furthermore, he has mentored 23 individual Academic All-Americans, while 17 of his coached teams received national academic accolades from the USTFCCCA. His teams have also collectively won multiple conference Athlete/Freshman of the Year awards, totaling five.

Future Aspirations

The Vice President and Director of Athletics, Desireé Reed-Francois, highlighted the importance of effective communication, competitiveness, and organization within the coaching program as essential attributes going forward. Dubs expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Arizona Athletics program and asserted his intention to guide the teams toward winning championships in Tucson.

Dubs’ Athletic Background

Andrew Dubs has a rich history as an athlete himself. He was a standout thrower at the University of Connecticut, where he accomplished three NCAA qualifications and four Big East championships. In addition to his qualifications in athletics, Dubs was actively involved as the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) during his collegiate years.

Dubs holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a focus on Coaching and Administration obtained in 2009, and a Master’s degree in Higher Education and Sport Management earned in 2012 from Auburn University.

Recognitions and Contributions

Throughout his coaching career, Dubs has made significant contributions to the sport. He has coached two Olympians, three national champions, and a Pan-Am Gold Medalist, as well as numerous national record-holders from Finland and South Africa. His experience and accomplishments position him well to bring a new level of success to the Arizona Track & Field and Cross Country programs.
