Phoenix, Arizona – ASU Nominates Cam Skattebo and Kenzie Brown for Big 12 Athlete of the Year

Arizona State University (ASU) has nominated two standout athletes, Cam Skattebo and Kenzie Brown, for the prestigious Big 12 Athlete of the Year award. Both athletes have had exceptional seasons, making their marks in ASU’s athletic history.

Cam Skattebo’s Remarkable Season

Running back Cam Skattebo, a two-year starter from Rio Linda, California, had a thrilling 2024 season that garnered widespread acclaim. He earned First-Team Associated Press All-American honors and First-Team All-Big 12 accolades, solidifying his status as one of the most impactful players in college football.

During the season, Skattebo achieved remarkable milestones, setting multiple ASU single-season records. He became the first FBS player since Christian McCaffrey in 2015 to rush for over 1,700 yards and receive more than 500 yards in a single season. In addition to his on-field success, Skattebo was named the Most Outstanding Player in the Big 12 Championship, leading the Sun Devils to victory.

His impressive performance earned him recognition beyond the conference, as he finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting for the 2024 season. Even in the Peach Bowl, where ASU faced a narrow defeat, Skattebo shined, accumulating 143 rushing yards, 99 receiving yards, and 42 passing yards, earning him the title of Offensive MVP.

Apart from his athletic feats, Skattebo completed his academic journey at ASU by graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies in December 2024. He was also an active member of the Pat Tillman Leadership Council, demonstrating his commitment to leadership and community service.

Kenzie Brown’s Dominance on the Pitching Mound

Senior pitcher Kenzie Brown from Lake City, Illinois, also had a standout season, securing Nihitar Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First Team All-American honors. She achieved an impressive 19-8 record, with four saves and a 1.28 ERA, which positioned her as a critical component of ASU’s pitching staff. Additionally, she recorded 289 strikeouts, ranking second-most in NCAA Division I.

Brown’s exceptional performance placed her among the top five in the Big 12 across 11 statistical categories. She was a unanimous selection for the All-Big 12 First Team, showcasing her ability with double-digit strikeouts in 12 games, including nine instances where she struck out 12 or more batters. Notably, she tied a school record by achieving 18 strikeouts in a seven-inning game against BYU.

Recognized for her academic achievements, Brown was named a CSC Academic All-District and became a finalist for the CSC Academic All-America honors. She was also acknowledged as an Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete and made the Big 12 Spring Academic Honor Roll.
