Meanwhile, Buckeye residents were also impacted, with 1,252 customers losing power in areas near Illini Street to Southern Avenue and from Miller to Farm roads. Fortunately, APS indicated that power had subsequently been restored to the affected areas.
According to the National Weather Service, the probability of rainfall in metro Phoenix on June 1 was estimated to be between 50% and 80%, with thunderstorms having a 15% to 30% chance of occurring. The weather patterns were primarily driven by a system that brought unseasonably high moisture to the region, resulting in significant precipitation.
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport reported a total of 0.3 inches of rainfall from the storms, which broke the previous daily record of 0.2 inches set in 1914. Other regions, such as near Mesa Community College in the East Valley, recorded fleeting rain, with various areas experiencing between 0.04 to 0.12 inches of rain. The widespread rainfall signifies a considerable weather event in the region, especially following several weeks of dry conditions.
The forecast for the first half of the week predicts local temperatures in the low-to-mid 90s, with an expected increase to 102 degrees on June 4. Some regions may see temperatures rise to around 110 degrees by the weekend. Despite the disruptions, only 14 customers from Salt River Project (SRP) experienced power outages due to the storms. As the weather system continues, light to moderate rain is expected across southcentral Arizona in the coming days.
