Effective from October 2025, this arena, home to the NBA’s Phoenix Suns since 1992, is famous for hosting over 100 events yearly. Known as ‘The Purple Palace,’ it has a rich history, including multiple WNBA Finals wins for the Phoenix Mercury and significant renovations that ensure its status as a top sports and entertainment venue.

Phoenix has officially rebranded its renowned PHX Arena as the Mortgage Matchup Center, following a significant $115 million naming rights deal with United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM). The new name will take effect starting October 2025. This arena has been the home of the NBA’s Phoenix Suns since its opening in 1992.

Located at 201 East Jefferson Street in Phoenix, Arizona, the arena initially opened as America West Arena and holds the status of being the fourth-oldest active arena in the NBA. It is affectionately nicknamed “The Purple Palace” due to the team’s primary color, purple. The venue conveniently sits just one block away from the MLB’s Arizona DiamondbacksChase Field.

The Mortgage Matchup Center is a bustling hub for sports and entertainment, hosting over 100 events annually. Notably, the Suns made a remarkable impact in their first year at the arena, reaching the NBA Finals in 1993, although they were ultimately defeated by the Chicago Bulls, a team famously led by Michael Jordan. The Suns returned to the Finals in 2021 but lost to the Milwaukee Bucks, despite winning their first two home games.

Adding diversity to the venue’s athletic offerings, the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury has called the arena home since its inaugural season in 1997. The Mercury have celebrated success at the arena with WNBA Finals victories in 2007 and 2009. The arena briefly accommodated the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes from 1997 to 2003 and has also hosted various events including WWE events, boxing matches, and UFC competitions.

Over the years, the arena has undergone major renovations to enhance its facilities. A significant upgrade was completed in 2003, featuring a new glass atrium. More recently, a $230 million renovation project began in 2020, upgrading the venue ahead of its new naming rights deal.

The arena’s previous name, Footprint Center, was effective from 2021 to 2025. UWM, led by Mat Ishbia, the president and CEO of the mortgage company and owner of the Suns, has expressed that this partnership reflects a joint commitment to excellence.

The Phoenix Mercury is currently set to compete in the WNBA Finals against the Las Vegas Aces, while the Suns have a preseason game scheduled soon. The Mortgage Matchup Center provides an array of premium seating options and features multiple dining choices, enhancing the visitor experience.

Parking facilities are available for both premium seat holders and the general public. The arena also offers access to multiple rideshare and public transit options. Security regulations specify that items larger than 4” x 6” are prohibited, as well as backpacks and other specific items, to ensure safety.

With a rich history and a promising future ahead, the rebranding of the Mortgage Matchup Center signifies not only a new name but also a continuous evolution of one of Phoenix’s most cherished entertainment venues.
