Phoenix – The Arizona Cardinals are set to relocate their training facility to Paradise Ridge in north Phoenix, marking a significant shift from their long-established home in Tempe. The decision comes as the team aims for a more spacious environment to support their operations, a need that has been exacerbated by current limitations at their Tempe site.
Previously, the Cardinals had announced in February plans for a new $100 million training facility on their existing property in Tempe, but the team has since opted for a 217-acre property acquired at an Arizona State Land Department auction for $136 million. This new site is conveniently located just north of Loop 101 and west of Scottsdale Road.
The new training facility will be expansive, featuring three natural-grass outdoor practice fields alongside a fieldhouse that will include a full-size indoor turf field. Designed to meet modern standards, the facility will also boast an expanded locker room and state-of-the-art team spaces, accommodating the evolving needs of the franchise.
With a planned size of approximately 250,000 square feet, the new facility will be roughly double the size of the current 14-acre facility in Tempe. The complex is scheduled to cover 30 acres, allowing for a range of training and development purposes beyond what the team has been able to manage in Tempe.
In addition to the training facility, the remaining area of the property may host corporate headquarters, restaurants, retail stores, medical facilities, and possibly residential spaces. This mixed-use development is anticipated to become a significant addition to the region, particularly to what is known as Phoenix’s Headquarters Alley. The Arizona Commerce Authority will play a role in exploring future possibilities for this area.
The Cardinals are collaborating with the sports architecture firm Rossetti for the design of the new facility, ensuring it meets both the practical and aesthetic needs of the franchise. The anticipated opening date for this state-of-the-art training complex is set for sometime in 2028.
The decision to move from Tempe has triggered a response from local officials, including Tempe Mayor Corey Woods, who acknowledged the longstanding partnership between the city and the Cardinals over the past three decades. He wished them success in their new location while recognizing the significance of the team’s history in Tempe.
It is important to note that the selected site had previously been associated with attempts to reintroduce an NHL team to the Valley, highlighting the area’s potential for sports development. The mixed-use aspect of the project is expected to enhance local economic growth and bring various amenities to the Phoenix area.
As the Arizona Cardinals prepare for this new chapter, the shift to north Phoenix symbolizes a commitment to expanding their resources and improving the training experience for their players and staff. With a focus on modernity and functionality, the new facility aims to establish a lasting legacy for the franchise in its new home.
