Phoenix, AZ – Maureen Elizabeth McCarthy, known affectionately as “Mo,” passed away on September 10, 2025, at the age of 71 due to a ruptured aneurysm. Her sudden death has left a profound impact on her family, friends, and the community she served during her long career at the Mayo Clinic.
Born on July 22, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan, Mo was the daughter of Charles W. Farrell and Loretta E. Farrell. She was remembered as a cheerful, faithful, and hardworking wife and mother, dedicated to her family and her Catholic faith. Mo met her husband, Thomas K. McCarthy, while he was pursuing graduate studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The couple married on August 7, 1982, and went on to have five children together: Brian, Molly, Thomas, John, and Eileen.
